This year, 60 students (all boys!) from the Marist Catholic University School Dublin spent a week walking the Camino de Santiago (Spain). Teachers Kate Gaskin and John Doyle once again organised this enormous venture. They were assisted by three other teachers and two past pupils who had walked the Camino as students a few years ago.
Here is what fifth year student Mark O’ Callaghan had to say about the trip: "Recently we finished the Camino De Santiago and it was a truly memorable trip. We started in Portamarín and were welcomed by thunder which luckily wasn’t how the weather remained for the trip. It was lovely to walk through countryside, picturesque towns and up a lot of hills, maybe too many on the second day! Even though Santiago was our final destination I don’t think anyone was thinking about it until the final day. We were busy talking to pilgrims from Ireland, Germany and even South Korea which was quite special to hear their own individual stories. When we arrived into Santiago on the final day it was incredible. The bagpipes were being played as we walked out to see the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela light up by the scorching sun. It was a surprisingly emotional moment for everyone and it was something I’d never experienced before, everyone had their own struggles but they made it."
