Education
“We educate young people as compassionate citizens inspired by Christian principles and the value of each young person as a unique individual.”

Educating in the Manner of Mary
Following in the footsteps of Fr Jean Claude Colin and the founding generation of Marists of almost 200 years ago, Marist educators recognise in Mary, the first disciple, the first to have faith, the gospel figure who inspired this vocation and particularly the educational mission.
The first Marists set out a clear and compelling vision for the contribution that Marist schools can offer society. That vision focused on the central importance of the task: educating young people as compassionate citizens inspired by Christian principles and the value of every young person as a unique individual. These values are at the core of the education mission of the Society of Mary. They are instruments with which to embrace and respond to new educational and societal challenges.

A Place of Growth
The Marist presence in education is in the life, words, and actions of Jesus in the Gospel, living them in Mary’s way under the motto of Sub Mariae Nomine. Marist educators seek to ensure that student are not strangers to the gift of faith.
Marist educators create in the school community, a sense of family and home. The young people in their care find there, a sanctuary, a safe haven, in which to develop and grow, personally and spiritually. Here they can be themselves and discover themselves respected and cherished for who they are. Through these endeavours, all contributors to the Marist education project can feel cherished and valued.
In such an environment, each student is both accepted as they are and challenged to be the best version of themselves. While accompanying them on their journey in life, the desire of Marist educators and their partners in this mission is to combine a successful pursuit of excellence with the discretion and simplicity associated with the person of Mary.

Motivated by a spirit of empathy, they listen to the students in their care and respond with respect, thus fostering mutual acceptance.
Inspired by this tradition, Marist religious and their partners in the mission of education, play their part in the mission of the Church in Catholic education by taking the gospel figure of Mary as their inspiration and putting it into action for their times.
