On 14 August 1924, the Marists entered Pratola Peligna (Abruzzo) to take charge of the Shrine and parish of Santa Maria della Libera. The town is located in the hills east of Rome threatened by regular earthquakes. The building is a magnificent example of Italian baroque architecture, which was recently restored after the damage caused by the earthquake in 2016. The parish has a strong commitment to social justice, especially to those in prison. Mass and prayers are offered daily in the church and there is a regular programme of devotions to Santa Maria della Libera.
