Hundred Years of Marist Presence in Norway

Marists

Fr Jacob Mangers (Luxembourg) was teaching in the seminary of St. Olav in the Netherlands, when he met the bishop of Oslo, Norway, looking for priests to serve in the then tiny Catholic Church. In June 1925 Fr Jacob arrived in Norway, and only a few years later he became the bishop of Oslo. 14 other Marists followed his path over the years, and served in different parishes and chaplaincies, in youth and retreat ministry.

On 1st May 2025 the centenary was celebrated with a Thanksgiving mass with Bishop Bernt Eidsvig followed by a feast. The members of the Marist community in Norway were joined by Fr Juan Carlos Piña from the General Administration, Fr Kevin Duffy, Provincial of Europe, and other confreres who have ministered over the years in our Marist mission in Norway. Local clergy and many friends of the Marist community joined for the festive celebration.
