Capitulants of our General Chapter 2025 were received by Pope Leo XIV in the Clementine Hall, in Vatican City on 18th September.

As we commemorate this feast, we are reminded of Mary’s profound influence and her role as a powerful intercessor for the faithful. From the beginning, Marists have seen their relationship with Mary as a sort of covenant with rights and responsibilities on each side.

Matthew Crawford writes from the Albergue of Santa Cruz: Before I arrived in Spain, I had also pictured sunshine as the norm. I arrived in Sahagún in early March and was greeted by a light fall of snow!

The 4th Marist Study Summer School at Casa di Maria brought together people from a diverse range of backgrounds, age and experience: Marist priests, a Marist sister, two SMSM sisters and lay people, with each continent represented.

It was indeed a special community event in St Teresa’s parish in Donore Avenue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ordination to the priesthood of Fathers Larry Duffy, John Harrington and Paul Walsh on August 10th.

This provincial retreat was first and foremost an opportunity for a fraternal reunion with regulars of what had become an institution: from Norway to Spain, from Ireland to Italy, the European retreat allows us to get to know each other and then to meet again, in true joy, praying together, close to the Founder, in our various languages. 

This year we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the death of our founder, Father Jean Claude Colin. Marists and Friends are warmly invited to join a pilgrimage in the footsteps of Father Colin to the Marist Places of Origin from 10 to 15 November 2025.

Saturday 5th of July 2025 was the day of our annual Marist pilgrimage to Walsingham. The tennis at Wimbledon was left behind and the recent heat wave was put on hold as we made our way to the National Shrine of Our Lady: by coach and by car from various parts of England, in time for the opening Concelebrated Mass.  

French Lay Marists gathered at La Neylière over the Pentecost weekend with Fr John Larsen, Superior General of the Marist Fathers. Fr John shared his reflections on the theme ‘Nothing is impossible with God: do you believe it?’ (Luke 1:37).

Marist Family leadership teams in France met together in Lyon on 24th June 2025. Brothers Gabriel and Javier FMS, Sister Marie Thérèse SM and Fr Kevin SM received a warm welcome in the SMSM house at Ste Foy, hosted by Sisters Anathasie and Hélène SMSM.

In 1825, Jeanne-Marie Chavoin and her companions arrived in Belley, guided by deep faith and the quiet strength of Mary. From that moment, the Marist Sisters began a journey of humble service, hidden yet powerful, rooted in compassion and simplicity.

Under the guidance of Fr Jean-Marie Bloqueau, with the special help of Fr Ron Nissen and many others, a coordination group is preparing a variety of resources and events to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of Fr Colin on 15 November 2025.
