Christina Ball skriver fra London: <\/em><\/p>\n\n

Jeg har v\u00e6rt direkt\u00f8r ved Notre Dame Refugee Centre (NDRC) i rundt 18 m\u00e5neder, og jeg synes jobben min er utrolig givende. Jeg jobber i et lite team, og det er lett \u00e5 se hvordan arbeidet v\u00e5rt utgj\u00f8r en reell forskjell i livene til de mest s\u00e5rbare flyktningene og asyls\u00f8kerne. <\/p>\n\n

Flyktningesenteret ble opprinnelig etablert for 28 \u00e5r siden av maristene i Notre Dame de France, som et svar p\u00e5 den politiske krisen i Den demokratiske republikken Kongo. Mange fransktalende afrikanere som flyktet fra omveltningene i landet, sluttet seg til kirkens menighet, noe som f\u00f8rte til at prestene og menighetsmedlemmene \u00f8nsket \u00e5 gj\u00f8re mer for \u00e5 hjelpe dem som s\u00f8kte \u00e5 gj\u00f8re Storbritannia til sitt hjem. <\/p>\n\n

Siden den gang har senteret vokst, selv om det fortsatt er en liten veldedig organisasjon med egen veldedighetsstatus, der vi tilbyr ekspertr\u00e5dgivning om innvandring, en rekke st\u00f8ttetjenester og fremfor alt en varm velkomst. Vi har bare syv ansatte, hovedsakelig p\u00e5 deltid, og vi er avhengige av st\u00f8tte fra mer enn 30 frivillige fra alle samfunnslag - inkludert noen av prestene og menighetsmedlemmene. <\/p>\n\n

Flyktningesenteret er fortsatt en viktig del av Mariasamfunnets misjon, og vi har et godt samarbeid med maristfellesskapet og deltar i ulike aktiviteter gjennom hele \u00e5ret. Til daglig treffer vi pater Pascal og pater Martin jevnlig, selv om det bare er for en kort prat, eller vi m\u00f8tes mer formelt p\u00e5 tillitsmannsm\u00f8ter. Senest denne uken hadde vi en felles personalutflukt, der senterets og kirkens team spilte et ganske konkurransepreget parti petanque ved Themsen. <\/p>\n\n

I 2024 var jeg s\u00e5 privilegert \u00e5 bli invitert til \u00e5 bes\u00f8ke La Neyli\u00e8re, der jeg fikk l\u00e6re mye mer om maristenes historie og misjon, noe som var sv\u00e6rt inspirerende og ga meg en verdifull ny innsikt i det arbeidet jeg gj\u00f8r hver dag - og en forst\u00e5else av at grunnen til at organisasjonen ble etablert for s\u00e5 mange \u00e5r siden, er like viktig i dag som den gang.<\/p>\n\n
