I 1996 opprettet Marist-teamet og en gruppe menighetsmedlemmer i Notre Dame de France-kirken i London Notre Dame Refugee Centre<\/a> <\/strong>(NDRC) for \u00e5 \u00f8nske innvandrere velkommen og finne l\u00f8sninger p\u00e5 deres ulike behov. P\u00e5 den tiden var en rekke fransktalende land i Afrika preget av uro og krig. Som f\u00f8lge av dette flyktet disse flyktningene fra sine hjemland for \u00e5 s\u00f8ke asyl og finne et tryggere hjem et annet sted. De delte kirkebenkene med menigheten i London, og menighetsmedlemmene var ivrige etter \u00e5 yte st\u00f8tte. <\/p>\n\n

Initiativet tok sin begynnelse i en enkel, men dyptgripende erkjennelse, slik pater Martin McAnaney (styremedlem i NDRC) husker det: \u00abDet var veldig enkelt \u00e5 si: Vi har et menighetssenter, la oss sette av noen timer til \u00e5 \u00f8nske folk velkommen og gi dem vi sitter ved siden av i kirken litt selskap<\/strong>.\u00bb I begynnelsen var det ingen formelle gudstjenester, r\u00e5dgivere eller omfattende programmer \u2013 bare et sted preget av varme og gjestfrihet \u2013 som etter hvert skulle utvikle seg til et anerkjent senter som gir r\u00e5d til hundrevis av mennesker hvert \u00e5r. <\/p>\n\n

Den 19. juni feiret NDRC sitt 30-\u00e5rsjubileum<\/strong> med en mottakelse i en lokal felleshage. Arrangementet b\u00f8d p\u00e5 musikk fremf\u00f8rt av en tidligere flyktning, hvis reise ble st\u00f8ttet av senterets team. I en tilbakeblikk p\u00e5 de siste tre ti\u00e5rene p\u00e5pekte pater Martin hvordan organisasjonen med hell hadde navigert gjennom et skiftende landskap. Forbedringen av tjenestene gjorde det mulig for teamet \u00e5 tilpasse seg effektivt til endringer i flyktningdemografien som f\u00f8lge av globale konflikter. Avgj\u00f8rende for denne stabiliteten var den store skaren av ekstraordin\u00e6re frivillige samt de ansattes lojalitet, der de fast ansatte sammen holdt fast ved kjerneoppdraget. Til slutt sikret giveres urokkelige engasjement, selv midt i et vanskelig politisk klima, \u00f8konomisk b\u00e6rekraft. <\/p>\n\n

Med blikket rettet mot fremtiden er NDRC klar til \u00e5 m\u00f8te nye utfordringer og h\u00e5per p\u00e5 ytterligere 30 vellykkede \u00e5r. Som en tidligere klient sa<\/a>: \u00abDe er en velsignelse for lokalsamfunnet, fordi de f\u00e5r oss til \u00e5 f\u00f8le oss som en del av samfunnet<\/strong>.\u00bb <\/p>\n\n
