Jean-Claude Colin werd in 1790 geboren in St Bonnet-le-Troncy, Frankrijk, ten tijde van de Revolutie. Hij was een verlegen jongen met een sterk geloof. Hij hield erg van de stilte midden in het bos, waar hij God in stilte kon vinden. Toen zijn moeder overleed, <strong>werd Maria zijn zachte moeder en gids<\/strong>.    <\/p>\n\n<p>Tijdens zijn tijd op het seminarie in Lyon hoorde pater Jean-Claude Colin een gefluister - een oproep om deel uit te maken van Maria's Werk. Op 23 juli 1816 beklommen twaalf jonge mannen de heuvel van Fourvi\u00e8re <g id=\"gid_0\">om Maria het begin van haar Soci\u00ebteit te beloven<\/g>. Voor ons is dat zaadje het begin van een levenslange zending.  <\/p>\n\n<p>In de stille vallei van Cerdon begon hij het hart van de <em><strong>Maristengeest<\/strong><\/em>verborgen en onbekend, dienend zonder roem te zoeken; instrumenten van barmhartigheid, medeleven brengend waar anderen oordeel vonden, levend als Maria, dicht bij mensen in nood. Zijn droom was eenvoudig maar immens: goede christenen, goede burgers en goede professionals vormen. Hij geloofde dat iedereen Marist kon zijn, in staat om anderen te verwelkomen zoals Maria dat deed.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Het is als een boom met vele takken: priesters, broeders, zusters en leken - allen<em><strong> dragen Maria's geest naar de meest afgelegen plaatsen<\/strong><\/em>. In zijn laatste jaren in La Neyli\u00e8re schreef hij de constituties.
