In 1899 vestigden de Maristen zich in Meppen, een stad in het noordwesten van Duitsland. Ze stichtten een school voor jongens uit de omliggende dorpen, van wie er velen missionaris werden in Oceanië. Tegenwoordig woont er een communiteit van gepensioneerde Maristen in het oude gebouw waarin de diocesane school Gymnasium Marianum is gehuisvest.
